Genesis Energy is New Zealand's largest energy retailer with a diverse electricity generation portfolio and more than 700,000 residential and SME electricity and gas customers, located predominantly in the North Island of New Zealand.
As the existing Gennet Home Page, the gateway into the client's business critical intranet,was not as user friendly as the business required it to be, Genesis Energy wanted a quick win, fast turn-around solution to refresh both the look & feel and the information hierarchy of this portal page.
Gruden worked with the existing Home Page template to redesign all screen elements and styles whilst clearly defining each unique content area, reflecting the Genesis Energy master brand and supporting the public site design, www.genesisenergy.co.nz.
These styles were carried across all of the other Gennet templates to create a uniform visual browsing experience for the user.
Alongside the refreshed look and feel, new search functionality was required. Previous searches of the Staff Directory within the intranet had taken the user out to an external application. The search facility that Gruden developed and integrated means that users can now login to Gennet and search the Staff Directory without leaving the Gennet site, dramatically increasing site usability for this business tool.
Gruden also developed and integrated a keyword search on the Home Page which, as linked to site database, returns to the user the results for all keyword instances across the whole of the intranet. This search facility was sistered with the ability for a user to alternatively conduct a full World Wide Web search for the same keyword query, utilising Google search.
Gruden is currently working with Genesis Energy on Phase 2 of the Gennet upgrade project and looks forward to working with their team to improve the usability and success of further aspects of their intranet.
